Great opportunity for associate degree students

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) offers students studying in the two-year associate degree program the opportunity to graduate with a double diploma by simultaneously studying in another department of their interest. Thanks to this new opportunity, the students of 21 different programs of vocational schools will be able to study in the second program they want through the Double Major Program (DMP). Young people, who will be equipped with knowledge and skills from different sectors, will also expand their fields of work. IUE, which offers the DMP opportunity given to 4-year undergraduate degree students to associate degree students also, will be one of the few universities that offers this opportunity.

Students studying in 13 programs in the Vocational School, 7 in the Vocational School of Health Services, and 1 in the Vocational School of Justice will benefit from the 'double diploma' opportunity offered by IUE which aims its 20th anniversary of its establishment as a 'project and innovation period'. The number of 4-year undergraduate programs that young people, who will graduate with a double degree, can be placed after the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) will also increase.

NO SCHOLARSHIP INTERRUPTION, NO EXTRA FEES

Even if their education period is prolonged, students will benefit from the scholarship opportunity uninterruptedly during the DMP period. Students will not pay additional fee for the second program they will study at. For a double major, the grade point average must be at least 3 out of 4 and student must be in the top 20 in the class ranking.

PROGRAMS SUPPORTING EACH OTHER

Lecturer Burçin Önder, Director of IUE Vocational School, stated that they have made all the plans for the 2021-2022 academic year. Önder said, “DMP opportunity will be between programs that communicate with each other and support each other. For example, a student studying in the Graphic Design Program will be able to study in Radio and Television Programming at the same time. Applications for the double major will be made at the beginning of the spring semester of the first year or at the beginning of the fall semester of the second year. Hundreds of students, who can benefit from this opportunity, will have DMP coordinators as well as advisors. In this way, the courses of students will not overlap, and it will be ensured that they graduate as soon as possible without any problems. All these will be help increase the interest in vocational schools in the future.”

WIIL BE DESIRED BY THE SECTOR

Prof. Dr. Makbule İlgi Şemin, Director of IUE Vocational School of Health Services, stated that the importance of qualified health workers for the society was understood in the Covid-19 period. Prof. Dr. Şemin said, “We have to raise individuals, who have different knowledge and skills and are always eager to learn. As a university, we are taking many steps in this direction and preparing our students for the future in the best way. One of the innovations brought to life with this goal was the DMP opportunity provided to our students. A student studying in 'Elderly Care' program will also be able to receive training in physiotherapy or medical laboratory techniques. In this way, s/he will make a difference among peers by studying in a program close to his/her field and will be a desired name in the sector.”

JOB OPPORTUNITIES WILL EXPAND

Asst. Prof. Dr. Cem Özcan, Director of IUE Vocational School of Justice, said, “The opportunity provided by the University will improve both education and job opportunities for the students of 'Justice Program'. Students will be able to choose the one that suits them among the programs within the Vocational School and the Vocational School of Health Services. Likewise, students from other programs will also be able to choose our program. The most important advantage of this is that it will increase the job opportunities of students so much more. It should be remembered that the only program that must be studied to be able to transfer to faculty of law is the "Justice Program". The DMP opportunity will further increase the attractiveness of our program. Students will make the most of this opportunity.”
