Department of Elderly CareWithin the healthcare team, Elderly Care Technicians are healthcare professionals who assist older adults requiring care in maintaining their activities of daily living, support the management of health problems associated with aging and illness, and address the needs of older individuals from both healthcare and social service perspectives.
The Elderly Care Program aims to educate qualified professionals who are capable of preparing and providing the medical and psychosocial environments required for the care of older adults; contributing to the health, well-being, and quality of life of elderly individuals; developing effective solutions in the delivery of elderly care services; and demonstrating analytical thinking, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to work effectively as members of multidisciplinary teams.
Graduates who successfully complete the program and receive their associate degree diploma may pursue employment in both the public and private sectors. In the public sector, graduates may be employed through the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS). Career opportunities are available in public and private hospitals, social service institutions providing elderly care, nursing homes, residential elderly care facilities, and day care centers for older adults.
In addition, Elderly Care Technicians may provide social support services for older adults as well as companionship and caregiving services in home care and hospital settings, contributing to the improvement of older adults' quality of life and well-being.
In accordance with the relevant regulations, graduates of the program may continue their education in four-year bachelor's degree programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Emergency Aid and Disaster Management, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Gerontology, Nursing, Healthcare Management, and Social Work, provided that they successfully pass the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).
Admission to the program is based on applicants' TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) scores.
Our program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in well-established nursing homes in İzmir, while also providing access to well-equipped laboratories that support the development of the professional knowledge and practical skills required in the field.
