    Opticianry Program – Assessment and Academic Regulations

    In the Opticianry Program, students’ academic and practical performance in courses and applied training is evaluated in accordance with the İzmir University of Economics Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training Regulations.


    Examination Procedures

    • Students are subject to at least one midterm exam and one final exam in each academic term.
    • Examinations are conducted on the dates and in the locations announced by the University.
    • All examinations are assessed using evaluation tools prepared by the course instructor.
    • Evaluation criteria are announced to students by the course instructor at the beginning of the semester.

    Conditions for Taking Upper-Level Courses

    • At the end of the first academic year, students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is at least 1.50 may advance to the next year and take upper-level courses.
    • For graduation, students must achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.

    Elective Course Requirement

    To graduate, students must successfully complete a total of eight elective courses, at least three of which must be OPT-coded field electives.


    Course Load for Unsatisfactory Students

    Students who are academically unsuccessful may, with the approval of their academic advisor and without exceeding the normal course load, take the following courses:

    • Courses they have previously failed
    • Courses they have not yet taken from lower levels
    • Courses from their current year that they have not yet taken
    • Conditionally passed courses
    • Courses they wish to improve their grades in
    • Up to 12 ECTS credits of upper-level courses

    With advisor approval, students may also continue their studies with a reduced course load. However, semesters in which courses are repeated are included in the maximum duration of study.

    60–64 DD 1.00 Conditionally Passed
    50–59 FD 0.50 Fail
    0–49 FF 0.00 Fail
