Course Objectives The aim of the course is to have knowledge about clinical biochemistry and to gain ability of doing clinical biochemistry test
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Explain sample types used in clinical biochemistry laboratory, collection and preparation of samples in accordance with laboratory safety.
  • Discuss clinical biochemistry laboratory processes, statistical evaluation of diagnostic tests and quality control.
  • Define and apply carbohydrate, protein and lipid determinations in biological samples.
  • Explain electrolyte and blood gas analysis.
  • Classify the types of biochemical analysis in CSF and urine.
  • Define liver, kidney, heart, gastrointestinal system and bone metabolism tests.
Course Description This course includes clinical laboratories processes, biological sample types, fluid-electrolyte metabolism and acid-base balance tests (blood gases), tests for carbohydrate, lipid, and protein measurement in body fluids, tests for liver, kidney, heart, gastrointestinal system and bone metabolism, therapeutic drug level monitoring, tumor markers, urine analysis, CSF analysis, statistical evaluation of diagnostic tests and quality management.
