Course Objectives The aim of this course is to learn nuclear medicine laboratory techniques, concept of radioactivity and radiation safety.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Explain the concept of radioactivity and units.
  • Explain the principles of Nuclear Medicine Laboratory.
  • Explain the methods of protection from radiation.
  • Define the safe laboratory work rules.
  • Explain the basic nuclear medicine laboratory equipment and methods.
Course Description The basic structure of the matter and the atom, radioactivity and radioactive decay law, biological effects of radiation and radiation safety, radiation detection and radiation detectors, principles of working with radioactive substances, security and principles of nuclear medicine laboratory, the devices used in nuclear medicine, hot lab quality control methods, radiopharmaceuticals used in nuclear medicine, quality control of radiopharmaceuticals, production of radionuclides.
