HYGIENE EDUCATION AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Rules of hygiene, which need to be practiced by every walk of life, are being taught to employees working in wholesale, food, and beauty sectors by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Health Sciences and Vocational School of Health Services in collaboration with Public Education Centre. So far 36 people received their certificates and another 140 are waiting to complete their hygiene education as part of the trainings organized within Hygiene Education regulation published on the Official Gazette.
Lecturers Dr. Funda İfakat Tengiz, Dr. Yavuz Selim Süral of IUE Vocational School of Health Services and Lecturers Deniz Harputlu, Melahat Kızıl, Sevil Telli, Nursun Üstünkarlı, and Deniz Talaz of IUE Faculty of Health Sciences, teach the participants basic information on washing hands, wearing masks and hair bonnets in addition to special training on infections.
‘Working is not allowed without a hygiene education’
Dr. Funda İfakat Tengiz, who gave information about the training, stated that the participants received 8-hour training for two days and she said, “Employees who work at food production and wholesale and those who work at water intended for human consumption and natural mineral water sectors have to receive hygiene education. Also, the regulation calls for employees of Turkish bath houses, saunas, barbers, hairdressers, tattoo shops, massage and beauty salons, and hotels to receive this training. People who do not receive this training are not allowed to work at aforementioned workplaces according to the regulation.”
Tengiz said that the trainings included infection and its agents, and infectious diseases. She said that hygiene rules need to be practiced always. “Our trainings, which are especially appreciated by employees of food and beauty sector, are taught about wearing gloves, masks, bonnets in addition to basic information,” stated Tengiz.
